I’ve always loved the look and power of the Ram 1500 but felt it was missing a little something in the sound department. As soon as I start up my truck, I want people to know there’s a beefy beast under the hood! So I decided to upgrade to a Flowmaster Outlaw exhaust system – and let me tell you, this thing absolutely transforms the presence of my Ram.
Unleashing the Outlaw

The Flowmaster Outlaw series is designed for maximum noise and performance. This aggressive exhaust delivers a deep, thunderous tone that turns heads. I could practically hear my Ram roaring to life the moment I started the install!
But it wasn’t just about the auditory assault – I chose the Outlaw to really unlock the truck’s potential. Flowmaster claims you can expect up to 15% extra horsepower after installing this bad boy. I’ll admit I was skeptical, but once I got it on and took a test drive, the added acceleration was undeniable. Just nailing the gas from a stop really lets that Hemi engine snarl and surge.
Time to Get My Hands Dirty
Now I’m pretty handy with car repairs, but installing the exhaust system seemed intimidating. Luckily Flowmaster provides very detailed instructions to walk you through the process. I put my Ram up on jack stands and removed the old exhaust pipes.
I was impressed by the heavy duty construction and fit of the Outlaw components. The kit includes a HVR-style muffler, over-axle pipe, and 4” stainless steel tip. It took awhile, but after plenty of wrenching and more than a few skinned knuckles, I got everything bolted into place securely.
The final step was adjusting the exhaust hangers and clamps to dial in that perfect fit. After sliding back under the truck for some final tweaks, I was ready to fire this baby up!
The Beast Awakens

Turning the key that first time after the install, I was blown away by the transformational sound. The Outlaw gives off a deep, rumbling growl even at idle. And once I hit the gas, it erupted into the full-on roar I had hoped for!
It’s amazing having all this additional power under my control. Whether gunning it off the line or passing slow cars on the highway, the added torque pushes the Ram to seriously impressive speeds. I expected some cabin resonance with the windows up, but Flowmaster’s sound-dampening technology keeps road noise to a minimum.
Legal Concerns

Now, unleashing your truck’s inner beast does come with some caveats. This type of exhaust system is not legal in all states due to noise and emissions restrictions. I made sure to verify regulations in my area, as some police won’t take kindly to the thunderous volume.
It’s also critical to have your truck’s ECU tuned after an exhaust mod like this. Without tuning, your engine might not run at optimal performance, or you could run the risk of triggering check engine lights. And be aware – installing the Outlaw will almost certainly void any factory powertrain warranty.
But in my opinion, the bold roar and brute power are well worth the tradeoffs. Just make sure you do your homework before uncaging the beast!
Inspiring Awe and Envy

Cruising around town the first few days after the install, I got some amazing reactions from fellow drivers and pedestrians. I’d see people whip their heads when I rumbled by, staring in disbelief at the thick, aggressive exhaust note. Other truck drivers gave nods of respect, revving their engines as if to say “nice pipes!”.
My buddies were blown away when I met them out one night and rolled up in the souped-up Ram. They couldn’t stop complementing the truck’s bad-ass idle and the roar when I gunned it for them. After letting them take turns behind the wheel, their envy was obvious – as was their sudden interest in upgrading their own rides!
River Run with the Outlaw
A few weekends after the install, I took the Ram out to the River Run off-road park. I was eager to see how the Flowmaster Outlaw would perform on rugged terrain. Immediately I could feel the increased torque helping to power up steep grades and over obstacles.
The deep rumble echoed off the valley walls as I navigated the technical trails. Other drivers out that day were certainly impressed by the menacing growl emanating from my truck! There’s just something primal and satisfying about hearing an engine marked by unrestricted Flowmaster exhaust while chewing up the dirt.
Towing Capacity Unleashed

Towing is where the Ram 1500 really shines, and the Flowmaster Outlaw helps optimize that utility. With the added horsepower and torque, I can now confidently pull even heavier loads without compromising performance.
Whether towing my fishing boat down twisting ramps to the lake or hauling construction materials to a job site, the Outlaw gives me the raw power needed to handle challenging towing conditions. I no longer lose momentum going uphill, and passing big rigs on the interstate is much quicker.
The sound is amplified even further when towing. The deep rumble seems to intensify under load, broadcasting the truck’s impressively unrestrained hauling capacity. I make sure to take the scenic route whenever I have a heavy trailer hitched up, just to have an excuse to stretch the Outlaw’s lungs.
Flowmaster Outlaw – Unleash Your Inner Beast

Installing the Flowmaster Outlaw exhaust system was one of the best upgrades I’ve made to my Ram 1500. The throaty, unrestricted flow helps the Hemi engine truly flex its muscle. Just be prepared for the head-turning rumble that announces your arrival wherever you roll up.
If you’re looking to push your truck to the next level for power and presence, I can’t recommend the Outlaw enough. The sound, performance, and reaction from others makes it more than worthwhile. It’s the perfect way to give your ride an aggressive, beastly roar to match the power under the hood!
